|6th degree black belt & kung fu disciple SIDNEY FILSON has been putting primitive punch into her Hawaiian paintings since the 1980s and her first Hawaiian oil paintings were done in the Honolulu studios of artist Darrell Ho. |
Trained in New York at the Art Student's League and The National Academy of Design, School of Fine Arts where she studied painting from life with Master Sam Adoquei, she shows her love of Polynesian culture with striking depictions of Hawaiian goddesses, legends and the peoples of Hawaii. The unique Hawaiian fantasy oil painting series, DA HAPPY TREE, ever-changing whimsical tapestries of birds and flowers is owned by collecters in America and Japan.
As part of the Hawaiian art scene Filson's oil paintings are featured in Oahu and Maui Island art galleries as well as Salon & Body Spas and boutiques in The Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, and have been auctioned by "Adult Friends of Youth at Risk" a Honolulu-based charity supported by Hawaiian artists.
As part of the New York art scene, FILSON'S Hawaiian oil paintings have been featured at MARYLOU'S RESTAURANT GALLERY, GREENWHICH VILLAGE; THE SHOWCASE HOME for the MILLENNIUM 2000 and the KIPS BAY SHOWHOMES, and she enjoys commissions from international interior designers and decoraters she's met during the showhouse exhibits.
As a New York-based journalist, SIDNEY had been editor of DRAGON MAGAZINE, a photo-journalist for L.A.Times Syndicate and author of 6 books, among them; NIGHTWALKER, a martial arts novel placed partly in Hawaii, with cover designed by Filson. Working in Human Resources inside schools, hospitals & Fortune 500 corporations, FILSON trains thousands of women and children in self-protection. Her fitness & health articles appear in magazines including Family Circle & Women's Day.
